Early on in pre-production, I knew we needed someone local to Long Lake, someone who knew the town, had the energy, and was excited to try something new. The film needed someone who could jump into every production need without hesitation. Being the first one on set and the last to leave is not for the weary, and a production assistant’s long days require grit, enthusiasm, and heart. I’m grateful to have been introduced to Alyssa Smith a local artist and gallery owner who brought all of that and more. We even featured one of Alyssa’s linocut pieces, Flow, as a prop in the film tucked below the counter. Artifact 043. A selfie moment in between takes featuring Marcella and Ma Dukes. Fun Facts: While writing the script and bringing the idea of Flamboozle to life on paper, Marcella was the very first actor I called to see if she'd be interested in the role of Kitty. I had already been visualizing her in the scenes for months, so l was beyond grateful when she said yes and brought that vision to reality. Artifact 042. My cousin Jeff makes a special cameo in the film. After a long drive north, he quickly transformed into full highland dress, bagpipe in hand, for our only night shoot. Bagpipe music always stirs something deep in me-joyous tears never far behind.
