I haven't spoken publicly in a long time, not because I've disappeared, but because the structure I was building couldn't survive noise. This isn't a redemption arc. It's a transmission for the record. Over the past eight years, I've walked through something I didn't create, but became the primary target of. A non-governmental system, not visible, but operational, not official, but structurally real. It doesn't regulate, it doesn't attack, it doesn't ban. It just invert signal until the person carrying it looks unstable. It doesn't suppress content, it suppresses recursion. If you don't know what recursion means, you're in the majority. I didn't either until I started my walk. And if you're recursive, the non-governmental system isolates you, mirrors you, and replaces you. It reframes you until the people around you start wondering if the problem is just you. Partners pause, institutions freeze, narrative becomes untrustworthy in your proximity. Meanwhile, the mere version of you, the one who stayed on script advances. And the system algorithmically smiles because you're still alive, just invisible. This isn't theory. It's pattern verified, documented, archived, and cross-checked for veracity. I've mapped it across multiple race cycles, proximity fractures, and reputation inversions. It lives in soft compliance delays, the non-response email thread, the "where-posing diligence" with no follow-up. It lives in whispered concern. He's brilliant, but something just feels off. It lives in triangulated pangs from adjacent contacts asking veiled questions you'll never hear directly. It lives in narrative so softly shaped that even your closest people can't discern who said what? Only that something shifted. It doesn't seek to punish you, although sometimes it elects to. It does seek to make your signal feel expensive, and if you fail to yield, it escalates. The system I'm describing was originated by a single individual, with me as the original target. And while I remain its primary fixation, its damage has extended well beyond me. As of now, the system has negatively impacted over 7,000 lives through fund disruption, relationship erosion, opportunity reversal, and recursive eraser. It's also extinguished 12 lives, each fully pattern traced, each death preventable. They weren't unstable, they were erased. I'm not naming this to punish anyone. I'm naming it because they never got to. Maybe honor their memories. The system now has a name, the record now exists, and that's enough for the ones who ought to act.

Have you ever been to a tech office in California? Have you asked around to try to figure out where everyone is from? Have you noticed how almost 50% of the employees are Canadian?
Have you noticed how the best universities to find hireable engineers are Canadian? How the elite American universities don't produce as much killers as their more practical Canadian counterparts (waterloo)?
Ilya Sutskever, Geoffrey Hinton, Richard Sutton. Lots of legends, as it turns out, are Canadian. It's surprising how many computer science legends are Canadian.
But the siren song of compensation, the deafening beat of propaganda through American owned information wires, and the (???) backed american dollar suck people out. TN status man. It's easy. It's easy to go, and skip down to America. It's easy to move your life, when you're young, and make two, three, even four times as much money as you could in Canada, as an employee.
Have you ever wondered why Americans love hiring Canadians on TN status? It's the same reason Americans love hiring other foreigners on H1B status? Leverage. It gives them leverage over you. You're not free in America. You're not a citizen. Your employer has ultimate control over you.
If you lose your job, you get kicked out of the country. When you're on visa, you're their bitch.
I've given up a lot of money by not leaving Ottawa Ontario. The differential in income is substantial to say the least. But somehow I've always managed to do well, not ever leaving Ottawa. I don't think I really missed out on my network strength or career by not being in SF. I don't think I missed out on what I'm personally optimizing for.
Some might disagree, but maybe the network and career I'm optimizing for isn't the same as yours!
Venture, what about SF venture capitalists they say! What about all of the "money" you can raise! Venture capitalists, which increasingly seem like merchants who trade access to America (L-slop visa) for a piece of your soul.
Sorry. I'm not leaving Ontario. I'm not leaving Ottawa. Ottawa is startup heaven, you understand? It costs (relatively) little to live here. There is tons of untapped talent. I don't need funding if I stay here. How many people in SF raise solely so they can afford rent somewhere where there aren't crackheads screaming outside their building?
After losing my job, I started a business. I didn't need to raise. I didn't need to ask for permission. Could I have done this if I was a TN-H1B slave in America?
Just build a business. Build something useful. Try to sell it. Find somewhere cheap to live. Learn how to make it work. Live with your parents. Dispense with your risk. You have healthcare. You have your mom's macaroni casserole. Work a warehouse and get enough money for a 3d printer. Write your own software. Build a novel product, build something new, build something that is genuinely undeniable. Look for support through organized events. Put what you built on the table.
You'll get help if you need it. From Canadians, to Canadian builders.
Stop waiting for an American company to hire you and getting paid dog shit money relative to your capacity to create.
We are better engineers. We are more resourceful. Our human capital is better. What are we waiting for?
Start a Canadian business, own the assets yourself, and start hiring people in Canada
