Liberté is a poem by Paul Eluard. In 1942 thousands of copies were dropped by parachute by British aircraft of the Royal Air Force above occupied France maquis. They knew that a poem could be a powerful vector of resistance. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libert%C3%A9_(poem)

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair. The opening of Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities I like that, somehow it fits in with our times.

Poetry invents language, language and narrative invent us. Absolutely fundamental.

Life is lonely. I don’t know what I would do without literature honestly. It has helped me survive all throughout my life. I remember reading my first book at the age of 5 and feeling the magic of reading someone else’s mind. There’s no other art form that enables you to read someone else’s thoughts. Every other art form is an interpretation. I remember doing a book report on CS Lewis in 7th grade. My Shakespeare class in 10th grade and being picked to read Kate in Taming of The Shrew. And finding Anglo-Saxon literature in 11th grade, then graduating early and studying Greek. What a gift literature is. My best friend. I don’t want to ever live without it.
