Actually this "It makes you more capable without making someone else more powerful in the process" isn't quite right If you buy a raspberry pi, you're obviously making the raspberry pi foundation more "powerful" But once you own it, it's yours. You can install whatever you want, modify it, repair it, keep using it forever, and nobody can decide to take it away or change the rules on you. So the creator benefits, but the creator doesn't retain power over the user What's the best way to describe that distinction in a way people will understand?

I think society’s biggest problem is that the average person sees all technology as the same They think it all makes the “San Francisco elites” more powerful But that is not true. There is a category of technology that decentralizes power. It makes you more capable without making someone else more powerful in the process The more people who understand the difference, and the more of these technologies we build, the better

the holy grail is a protocol that can arbitrarily verify if autoresearchers made genuine, novel progress on benchmarks with it, anyone with spare compute would be able to contribute to humanity's tech tree and earn money from it, all discoveries fully open sourced
