anyone notice reformulations of their favorite products recently?
around 2019, many major cosmetics brands started removing talc as an ingredient. this is related to the lawsuits against johnson and johnson, which sold asbestos-contaminated talc for many decades. i always attempted to avoid talc as much as possible after i learned that it forms right next to asbestos, but for the longest time, it was a main ingredient in nearly all powder-based beauty products.
“Talc gets contaminated with asbestos because both minerals are naturally formed in the same geological areas and are often found together in the earth. During the mining process, when workers extract talc ore, it is possible for asbestos fibers to be mixed in. This can lead to contamination that persists through the crushing and powdering stages, resulting in talc products containing traces of asbestos.”
now, don’t freak out, the actual likelihood of contamination in anything you use is incredibly low, if not nil. and now talc, due to its reputational contamination, is being phased out all over the place.
as an example, this is the same product, left is a couple years old and right is brand new.
i noticed the same with a face powder recently (unfortunately the new formula is way worse lol)
are there any ingredients you try to avoid at any cost?

I’m really into layering my fragrances.
My latest combos are:
Commodity’s ‘Gold’ on top of BROWN GIRL jane’s ‘Dawn’
OR
‘Gold’ on top of ‘Intimacy’ by local Portland perfumery, Aliyah Rose.
Gold is delicious all on its own but I love that Commodity welcomes mixing.

Okay let’s talk fragrances…I’m trying to think about incorporating scent into my daily routine but not sure what to invest in.
I don’t personally mind smelling like an a crisp fall morning or being submerged in a citrus teabag lmfao but how did you all discover “your scent?”
