For those wondering, the app I use is called Skywalk 2 — it’s free in the App Store. Especially great to use with kids. You point it up to the sky to help you identify things. Also has a menu for interesting astronomical events. https://apps.apple.com/app/id892279069

Congratulations to the brilliant USC students for setting a new record in amateur spaceflight! Their rocket, Aftershock II, soared to an incredible 470,000 feet (90 miles), smashing the previous record by 80,000 feet. The sky is no longer the limit! #Innovation #SpaceExploration https://laist.com/news/los-angeles-activities/usc-student-team-breaks-record-for-highest-amateur-space-launch

First images from Euclid are in, and damn are they impressive. Lots more to come, this is only 1% of what's coming. https://dlmultimedia.esa.int/download/public/videos/2024/10/023/orig-2410_023_AR_EN.mp4

With Earth capturing a ‘mini moon,’ does this mean it hasn’t fully cleared its orbit? Should we reconsider the definition of a planet—or even reclassify Earth as a dwarf planet? #sundaysciencequestion #astronomy https://abc7news.com/post/asteroid-will-join-earths-orbit-mini-moon-2-months-starting-sunday/15371816/

Curious if NASA’s ACS3 solar sail will be passing overhead? 🌍✨ Check out our prediction page! It might be visible without a telescope, but if you have a Unistellar scope, this is a must-see opportunity. Don’t miss it! It’s passing above San Francisco at 9:10pm tonight. https://science.unistellar.com/blog/spot-acs-3-nasas-solar-sail-in-the-sky/

Update on #CometA3 (C/2023 A3)! Just before it gets too close to the Sun, recent @unistellar network observations suggest it could peak at -1.1 magnitude—if it survives perihelion. 🌟 Big thanks to our @SETIInstitute citizen scientists! Let’s catch it in a month, fingers crossed it makes it! 🤞

ETI has begun scanning the cosmos in low-frequency radio waves, exploring new avenues in the search for alien technology. This novel approach could reveal signals that higher frequencies might miss, opening up a new frontier in the hunt for extraterrestrial intelligence. #SETI https://www.seti.org/seti-institute-starts-first-low-frequency-search-alien-technology-distant-galaxies
