I love how everyone who hates living in America is like, "We should be more like Europe! They have free healthcare!" 1. Europe basically raided a bunch of third world countries and they compounded their wealth. The US was a colony and everyone seems to forget this. Europeans left those countries in dire states compared to their own. Even countries that weren't directly involved still benefited from increased trade between their local economies. What's funny is France continues to do this to this day. 2. Europe doesn't have to maintain a defense force, so their governments have budgets on easy mode. That is definitely changing considering they realize the partnership with US defense comes at a high social and political cost. Germany and France have openly said they are re-arming which if they go through with it, means they will need to either raise taxes, or cut social spending. 3. Europe's free healthcare is awful. Government sponsored health care is generally time consuming and bad. If you talk to actual Europeans who need it, most of them hate the bureaucracy. I'm not saying healthcare shouldn't be affordable, I'm saying people who believe Europe is this bastion of greatness don't understand the conditions that got them there and their current state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaDufiqttxk&

From my perspective on the business lending side, the economy is completely fucked. Almost every client: - Has way too much overload on debt. - Doesn't need money and is just cashflowing their business but with reduced revenue. - Has perfect application which usually means there's a backdoor hidden clause somewhere that makes them fail during funding, usually do to a mix of the two above. Also some patterns: - These businesses are almost certainly being ran by guys in their 60s. The companies are in general in dire straights and the guy running the show could retire any minute now. - Industry talk is no one is getting a term loan since the banks don't want to repeat PPP loan scams. - Most are taking funding to pay down debt, which is the opposite of what financing is supposed to do in a healthy credit usage. If you think it's bleak for workers, when you get into underwriting it's *really bad* out here for businesses.

For context, the explicit terms of the H1-B program state that a company needs to actually put in effort to hire US workers and prove they couldn't find them. It's really supposed to be for exceptional talent in regions where it's hard to find Americans who live near and can be hired by these companies. Cloudera systematically set up processes to hire *only* H1-B and foreign workers without even including applications from US citizens in an effort to maximize profits. https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/civil-rights-division-sues-cloudera-excluding-us-workers-applying-high-paying-technology

The system is being designed so the only job you can get easily is working for ICE.

“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety” -Benjamin Franklin interestingly, this was written November 1755 during the French and Indian War, arguing that accepting the Penn family's money in exchange for Pennsylvania giving up the right to tax would mean sacrificing the colony's fundamental political power for a financial transaction, resulting in the loss of both true liberty and effective safety. but the same can be said about accepting FISA 702 in exchange for Americans giving up the expectation of privacy in communication, sacrificing the de facto right to assemble fundamental political power.

The US seriously needs immigration reform, but the senators are too busy insider trading on stocks and polymarket. https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/pr/ten-indian-nationals-indicted-visa-fraud-conspiracy

Good connection between the surveillance state and low trust society. He also points to the fact that people are increasingly being driven to expensive solutions that effectively lower their privacy in response to low trust society. Open windows when parking is probably the best example. https://youtu.be/adv1JPJJUJ8?si=nPDCAJOeoLtLBVAz
