core spin change would prob contribute, as could the coming solar pole shift near the end of this year, but the phenomenon can happen very slowly. i do know the rate of movement of the poles has increased since scientists started measuring, and shit is feeling v wonky rn so wouldnt be surprised if the writers added this to the script
