learnings from my first 24hrs: 1. timing and track selection matter so much more than gear or effects 2. layers take patience to hear not just create 3. feels like coding flow state but with sound curious how others approach discovery vs familiarity when mixing - how do you incorporate new tracks you don’t know well vs playing the same stuff over and over?

there comes a point of sufficiency when you can smoothly mix any two songs that you've never heard before at that point it's all about track selection

If I have an upcoming set or gig this is my typical flow I’ll build a playlist on my phone of music I’m interested in purchasing to later upload to my USB Rinse this playlist to get somewhat familiar with song structures; typically build ups & groovy 16 beat loop points I’ll add these tracks to beat port, load them into rekordbox & upload to USB Always be sure to have your wavelengths colorized, as you can see easily differentiate between frequencies (highs/lows) as the tracks wavelengths come across your CDJS LCD screen or the serato/rekordbox software on your computer I’ll rinse all new tracks through once over mixing in key to see which tracks work together Mixing in Key is what will make your mixes sound fluid & crispy even if it’s a new track you’re not familiar with Also, organizing your tracks by genre/sub-genre is uber important Keeping a consistent vibe going opposed to jumping between low/high energy tracks will always win just have fun & play what makes you feel good
