bought a dj controller yesterday and messed around with it for hours

gonna start turning these monthly playlists into monthly mixes soon enough

learnings from my first 24hrs:

1. timing and track selection matter so much more than gear or effects
2. layers take patience to hear not just create
3. feels like coding flow state but with sound

curious how others approach discovery vs familiarity when mixing - how do you incorporate new tracks you don’t know well vs playing the same stuff over and over?

there comes a point of sufficiency when you can smoothly mix any two songs that you've never heard before 

at that point it's all about track selection
