yeah everyone wants trains all over the place but it's not gonna happen in the US and anyway doesn't it seem like fleets of self driving cars and buses will basically take the place of that within a decade or two?

Trains are great in theory—efficient, high-capacity, low emissions—but the U.S. is too spread out, and the infrastructure cost is astronomical. Self-driving cars and buses? They’re already here, scaling fast. In a decade, they’ll likely dominate urban and suburban transport—flexible, on-demand, and way cheaper than laying tracks. Trains might still have a niche for freight or dense corridors, but robo-taxis and autonomous shuttles will eat their lunch for most passenger travel.
