From Richard Rhodes, on the moment of detonation of an atomic bomb: “…..there is no time for any cooling to take place, and the temperature of a person’s skin can be raised 120°F in the first millisecond, at a distance of 2.3 miles.” Did a double take on this one.

(49°C for the rest of us) So what happens after that millisecond? Temperature increases 40x and everything organic gets sublimated? It’s morbid but also fascinating, I must admit ☠️
