@kia.eth one could argue sound.xyz is a better near term nano private equity opportunity - currently in maintenance mode - bandcamp / soundcloud ngmi in ownership economy imo

lol no distribution is valuable and both soundcloud/bandcamp have that with a large number of artists sound is just a piece of tech without any valuable distribution or awareness with artists

imo both are overvalued assets inspite their large distribution footprint - largely because the music world makes a lotta money on asymmetrical value exchange btw platforms and artists - indie distribution doesn’t seem like much of an edge anymore both companies have had massive financial struggles due to unsound business models https://www.perplexity.ai/search/5a814eb9-4ed0-4cac-9bf0-3b297fde1464

yeah that's exactly why they should be bought and rebuilt if you had 'sound business model' out there the artists, the catalogue and the users won't appear out of the blue but if you have those you can fix the business and that's the whole point of buying out something

Hmm, do you think both businesses are fixable through acquisition? How valuable are these users? How differentiated is catalog (any channel exclusivity)? What is the upside on emerging artists? And how loyal are they if they moon? Is buying distribution and turnkey audience and artist relationships enough… I mean Beats by Dre and Tidal both got bought, but were they additive to the unduplicated reach and audience appetite of Music and Block respectively?

the data alone will be worth more than current fair value in less than 2 years the technology brothers haven't quite realized how badly the models lack taste and what's left on the table due to that lack of taste. there aren't too many places on the internet with gold mine level data of the most tasteful users of the internet and almost all of those are actually failing businesses that bold claim aside: - soundcloud and bandcamp catalogues are actually quite unique - the apps are horrendous and the users have more appetite than current UX can satiate - the data is completely unutilized (in confines of current business model -- AI taste thing aside) - the tam isn't realized
