The closest Ethereum's had to downtime is some large gas spikes, but that's:
1. unavoidable in a permissionless protocol
2. still way better than even 10m of hard downtime, let alone 4h+
3. mitigated by upcoming L1 scaling

Users treat exuberant fees as a defacto liveness failure. To those users Ethereum was down for all of 2021.  Ethereum fees were so bad that 99.5% reliability but guaranteed low cost was better, and thats how solana managed to get pmf.

Do you think you would’ve been able to find product market fit as quickly if base or any other low fee L2 was already in market back then?
