Users treat exuberant fees as a defacto liveness failure. To those users Ethereum was down for all of 2021. Ethereum fees were so bad that 99.5% reliability but guaranteed low cost was better, and thats how solana managed to get pmf.

As a user, the difference between my Uber app not working at all and the Uber ride being painfully expensive is extremely relevant (especially in an emergency).

can i get your opinion on this? first time i get into solana dev and am just landing my feet into it the idea is to have users mint a limited NFT (supply is 888) and then “write on their wall” or on others peoples wall. each writing is <180 chars is it unreasonable to hold all the state onchain? https://warpcast.com/jpfraneto.eth/0xdb4d0cd2

If that’s what you gotta tell yourself. But the network was unusable, not down. Two different things. It was functioning as designed. Yea it was shitty to pay 100 dollars to send 1 but it was functioning as designed. If ethereum is designed for more throughput, and it’s coming, it will function as intended with up time. Solana is not functioning as designed when it goes down. I think that’s the difference.

Agree - but now how do you plan to bring new users? Do you even care who the end user is? To me it seems like Solana is pushing to get more institutions - NASDAQ marketing. The perception I hear is that retail facing apps favor Solana, while institutions prefer Ethereum. Does is just take time to attract these users? More time = name recognition = credibility.

Why do I need like two dollars worth of Solana just to do a fucking transaction so annoying.

I like sol, was lucky enough to grab the bottom too: https://x.com/EoghanH/status/1590497756954910720 But let's be honest, the pmf was pumpfun. That started the flywheel which catapulted our bags. Again, I like solana, but I feel the ecosystem is turning stagnant now. A lot of shitcoin factories and mass extraction.

true tbh, I didn’t use ethereum until 2024 because of unstable and very high gas on average

Finally some proper bull posting. I’ve had the default mental model that Solana is a shittier AWS and VCs who got caught with FTX collapse trying to drum up exit liquidity for their positions. It’ll be nice to get some quality counter arguments in the feed!

Do you think you would’ve been able to find product market fit as quickly if base or any other low fee L2 was already in market back then?
