pretty much the same everywhere my most radical opinion is everyone should go through a citizenship tests (similar to the ones for immigrants becoming citizens) at 21 if you fail you still have permanent residency but not citizenship however international law forbids making someone stateless

the concept of a trade deficit/surplus doesn’t actually make sense china buys dollars, and pays with goods

I didn't say trade was free before, but neither did the meme, it said that free trade was good and made fun of two people broadly hostile to free trade then you talked about how trade was never free, and OP said it was freer, which is a fair response to your already unrelated point about the meme if anything you either misunderstood a meme, or created a goalpost where there were none side note to your side note: yes, it's a weird thing to try to actualize these people to today's world, but you did; if I had to bet I'd say he'd feel something somewhat similar to Sowell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9LYO_qFLeE

not sure where you get the idea that friedman doesn’t ā€œthink free trade is a spectrumā€ when it comes to actual trade policy (not just the theory), he understood that a government can only control its own policies and would consider a market where country A has no tariffs on country B (that has them) to be ā€œfreerā€ than one where both have restrictions meme stands https://youtu.be/fkHdq_2EUk4?si=GFJnOmS4zIVp9sdg

isn't that the whole problem with a fascist state? when you're on the path of it persuasion is important (and I agree that using these words is not good), but when it has clearly become one, the battle is not fought with persuasion anymore but with protection/preservation after 1933 the heros were the ones who saved Jewish people (among others) *at the moment*, not the ones who tried to persuade a population that had already (broadly) accepted it

The language should be that the US has become a fascist state, not just on the path of it It still has many anti-fascist backstops like the judicial system, federalism and a population that values freedom (I think), but why minimize the reality?
