People on X were like, “If you haven’t seen Straw yet, you clearly can’t be peer-pressured
I finally gave in and watched a Tyler Perry movie (I mean we know him so we kinda know what to expect💀)

He snapped with Acrimony, I’ll give him that. But Duplicity his last work had me like,Please, someone unplug his camera 😭

In his recent interview, He said he keeps telling these tragic Black woman tales to honor his mom and aunties. I respect that but respectfully, Perry! maybe take your foot off the trauma gas just a little.

For me,Straw is a 4.5/10 
Did it make me cry like the rest of the internet? Nah! Maybe y’all hyped it too much,or maybe I’ve built emotional calluses from Tyler’s cinematic stress.
That plot twist at the end😉I’ll give him that,didn’t see it coming. And hey,the mental health awareness was a nice touch.
But yeah.. I watched it so you don’t have to. Unless you want to🤷🏻‍♀️ You might give it a 10😏

I get that it’s your opinion but 
Just because Tyler Perry has been making trauma movies don’t mean this one is bad or mid

What you should judge a movie by is it’s acting, character and storyline 
You shouldn’t judge a movie because if it’s director or producer or if it makes you cry or not

Totally get where you’re coming from, and I respect your take. Like you said, it’s my POV. Just to clarify though, my review wasn’t based on the fact that it’s a Tyler Perry film or whether it made me emotional. It was more about the storyline itself and how empty or underdeveloped it felt to me(I probably didn’t point that out). I agree that acting, character depth, and plot are what really matter, and that’s exactly where I felt this one didn’t land as strongly. (Tho taraji and a few others did a good job) I get that others may connect with it differently, and that’s valid too.
