in other news: telegram was confirmed to work with russian intelligence agencies and openly sharing data with them by ANOTHER independent journalist agency telegram does NOT use e2ee, and even when it does (in secret chats that no one uses) it attaches unencrypted device id to every message tg is NOT secure

Thatโs what youโd call an open secret. The real question is whatโs the alternative? Most messengers and social platforms do the exact same thing. Everyone collects and shares data, with intelligence agencies, marketers, or anyone who can compel or pay for it. The problem runs much deeper than just Telegram. Data and people are the new oil.

signal, matrix, even imessages and messenger from meta have e2ee

imessage and meta messenger aren't opensource so you can't be sure they don't just dump a copy of your messages to after decrypting them matrix has fragile crypto and unencrypted parts so it's basically just signal; i hope they will add registration without phone number at some point
