The Padres made what I think was a really compelling offer to the Red Sox for Jaren Duran that the Sox rejected. They offered Dylan Cease (a rental for the Sox), one of their top prospects in Ethan Salas, and another minor leaguer. The Padres should pivot to looking at Wilyer Abreu and possibly could pull off a deal that doesn't require them giving up Salas. Padres need some thumb in their lineup. And they need an outfielder so they can move Sheet to DH/1st. Abreu seems like a great fit.

abreu probably gonna cost more since he’s still got 4 years of team control. duran remains the best trade piece, but my guess is that the red sox want more controllable assets vs a higher cost rental

Saying no to Ethan Salas is crazy to me. Maybe because I’m closer to the Padres pipeline but he was untouchable just a few months ago

my guess is that the red sox think navarez is good enough that they don’t need to trade specifically for a c they also traded teel away to get crochet. feels like they’re internally comfortable with the c’s they have already.

yeah we like narvaez. wong has been underwhelming this season on offense though so have heard sox may be looking for another backup catcher that can give narvaez a break and bring some power to plate
