Part of our culture that scares me is the need to document everything. Like film it or capture it. I know I’m writing this on a documentation channel. But why does this scare me so much?

I noticed this in myself a while back and now consciously fight the urge. Documenting is often a way to try and hold on to things, even/especially fleeting moments, and there’s something manic and stressful about doing so.

This gets discussed in photography circles: Does shooting photos put you in or take you out of the moment? I concluded it does take me out of the happenings of the moment, but if I’m shooting for hire, that’s okay. And I can still be in ā€œthe momentā€ doing so, it’s just not the same moment as everyone else.

Yeah I waver on this honestly. I think it can be artistic but also… can harm the present-ness of the moment.
