Part of our culture that scares me is the need to document everything. Like film it or capture it. I know I’m writing this on a documentation channel. But why does this scare me so much?

It probably scares you because it's a natural urge to resist something even more terrifying: a world where everything (including ourselves) is transient. Sam Kriss wrote (brilliantly) about this just the other day. Screenshot comes from his essay: https://samkriss.substack.com/p/how-to-live-without-your-phone

Do you think this has always been the case? I feel like it’s surveillance capitalism combined with the human obsession with living forever. Probably likes (dopamine) too.

I noticed this in myself a while back and now consciously fight the urge. Documenting is often a way to try and hold on to things, even/especially fleeting moments, and there’s something manic and stressful about doing so.
