I learned a new pruning technique for my hydrangeas and I still have some flowers, even though it is almost winter down here 😍

Probably I didn't reinvent the wheel, but it worked for me! Before, I used to prune them in autumn or winter, quite low, trimming all the branches to the same height. Last year, I pruned at the end of winter and did it in levels. There were tall suckers, still without flowers, that I left as they were (those were the first to bloom in summer). Then, I cut the dried flowers to a medium height, and finally, I pruned some branches very low (down to the woody stem). These last ones turned into tall suckers that are now blooming — the flowers are smaller and have a deeper burgundy hue than the summer ones, but flowers nonetheless!
