🧭Recalibrating 🌍Worldbuilding

The fundamental problem to solve for with personal tokens / creator coins / etc. is the psychological effect of a significant price decline.

1. Most people are not equipped to manage a liquid, global, 24/7 traded asset.

2. Current norms are that if someone buys an asset, they expect the person / team / organization behind that asset are incentivized long-term to make that asset more valuable.

3. When there's a significant price decline, many / most creators will be overwhelmed by the hole they now need to dig themselves out of. Layer on a bunch of angry, pseudonymous people screaming at them on the internet.

4. Additionally, what happens when you want to stop creating? Like Outdoor Boys recently did. Contrast to a publicly traded company where the founder retires—the value still continues to accrue.

Possible ways to change this

1. Invent a new asset that's time bound. Closer to a prediction market or an option. "I'm speculating on X during period Y."

2. Change norms / culture -- this is super slow.

Something I think about a lot as we shift to frictionless tokenization of everything 🤔 

No answer yet, merely thinking that we need ways for value to accrue independent of the creator coin price, so volatility does not dissuade new and old buyers, while enabling creators freedom to sell as needed to pay the bills

My takeaway from this is that most things don’t need a token—especially if the goal is simple access, like attending an event or unlocking content. 

This is doubly true for personal tokens as it creates a volatile market around identity. 

Tokens introduce speculation, price pressure, & unrealistic expectations that can distort both creator and community dynamics. 

If the value is transactional, sell a ticket. If ur building something symbolic, participatory, or meant to be traded—something that carries meaning over time or coordinates people without a central authority—then a token might make sense.

I’m thinking more along the second line, for community access and ability to share in upside with the creator 

This is similar to how the stock market works too, but coins/1155s make things more streamlined 

I have a few ideas I’m working on still but need to test them out before sharing

i struggle with the idea that if you tokenize, you’re now running a mini-economy then have to treat your token like an ongoing product—constantly adding features, rewards, and reasons to hold.

due to the speed of the space/culture, it seems like this path is nearly setup for creator failure due to the never ending and always increasing speed of the treadmill. 

compared to creators using nfts, individual transactions, etc that may offer a slower pace without a 5 yr plan to keep the token alive.

It sounds like you’d prefer the former?

i think it all comes down to intent of the thing.

imo, it’s easier to deploy & manage “Here’s a cool thing you own." vs 
"Here’s a bet on my future economy but for now it just gets access to the group chat”

again, i think the token wraps speculation around everything your brand would do and you most likely have no control over it. 

Where individualized items dropped by the brand can have their own speculative piece (or not), but always hold an intangible value like access to something, one time thing (limited airdrop etc), art, time proof, etc.
