Every computer program gets compiled to bytecode, the language the processor (or virtual processor) understands.

RISC-V is an open source bytecode which is gaining popularity and a vibrant ecosystem.

Ethereum currently has its own bytecode.  If they use RISC-V they will not only potential solve some long-term scalability issues (as per linked article) but also contribute/benefit from the RISC-V community which is a huge win IMHO.
