Well, from my very layman understanding , there are quite a few schools of thoughts or religious philosophies that are underpinned by the need of Man's search for meaning / overcoming or transcend beyond suffering, though on the flip side , it is also fairly meaningless (or absurd ) in that the reality or universe actually is indifferent to that suffering. Or maybe I am just partial to hedonist at heart.
