When we get to a place where every conversation on this app isn’t about crypto I will start inviting people from my real life.

During the $degen glory days I spent a while trying to get the SpankPay team onboarded. They have done a ton of web3 stuff and I thought the tipping meta would be really good for them but it never happened.

there's a world where farcaster is widely used by the right kinds of people and merkle demonstrated it's commitment to preserving free speech at the protocol level. in this world, adult content is censored /except/ on a dedicated, AO client, replete with AI dick and actual dick. call it porncaster or whatever. could be a timely arrival; the world is reacting against an easy excess of adult content online and a wave of censorship is coming. not this year. not next year. but soon. see also utah.

Very weird. One of my good friends was interviewed for this one. She’s actually someone who experimented with web3. She’d probably be a good candidate for Farcaster but again, not enough here yet.

is farcaster the means or the end? if we promo earning, it's a means. if we promo censorship resistance, it's an end. i prefer that; inspires creatives and fucking /stands for something/ worthwhile. while the rest of the internet enshittifies and censors, we can be the bastion.

but we won't. bastion isn't pmf.

but then farcaster needs to be meaningfully better than their preferred alternative. and besides our crypto stuff, it really isn’t. for normies it’s the same frontend as bluesky and x, without any of the people that make those networks useful. and users have sufficient tools on X to mitigate troll exposure. 

something needs to /happen to/ X, threads, or bluesky to make farcaster stand out again. something that upsets the incumbents and triggers migration, ala digg to reddit. my guess is censorship (vague, I know), but it could be something equally transformative (but unappealing).

I love so many things about Farcaster and I think it has a ton or potential, but we just need to find a way to bring people who don't care about crypto here. If I were running this app, I would take all the money raised on Pro and give it to actual influencers, not crypto influencers, and try to get them to bring their fans over here.
