I think that it is very possible in one or two years, some of us may think that we have succeeded and others that we have failed, all at the same time.

"crypto protocol" is so widely defined that means nothing to me. Pls define.

This is an incorrect analogy. You could never run your own Facebook client. You never had permissive access to the fundamental data and APIs. The only think they allowed was access to sign in and run apps in a sandbox. Those apps weren't able to work on other clients. We have that live and Coinbase Wallet, Zapper are able to permissionlessly make that work.

HTTP and SMTP do not have value capture. All value accrues to the companies building on it. The biggest companies de facto control the protocols.
