Apple definitely has a solid lead with hardware. I would love to see Zuck support the open hardware space as a counterweight; he could actually make a huge impact there.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. There was a great video a couple years ago of Meta's Reality Labs showing off basically everything that's in the new Apple headset. They just don't want to sell something that would cost thousands of dollars and require a bulky battery pack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6AOwDttBsc

I agree. Meta did this once with open compute before. It’s a bummer that Google basically quit daydream/cardboard etc right before it started getting interesting. They have a lower price point, existing developer and gamer base. Aiming to make it as open as possible would be great counterpositioning
