We need more secure hardware asap. Hopefully the crypto space, with its inherent pragmatic and ideological interest in trust minimization, will be able to do a lot to help.

Interdiction resistance/detection is already taken far more seriously in the crypto hardware wallet space than any other consumer product category. The saving grace is that the juice is not worth the squeeze for attacks like this in almost all situations. This is why the US government banning Huawei 5g was totally justified—it would be worth nearly any cost to be able to remotely cripple US infrastructure.
