Just rewatched Jaws. Just a month over 50 years old now (June 1975). That movie’s still got it. The special effects are primitive but well done, and the movie mostly rests on the tension build-up. You don’t even see the shark for the first hour or so. That whole early 1970s era disaster movie streak set the tone for the world I was born into (1974). Poseidon Adventure (1972) Nixon impeached (August 1974) Me born (November 1974) Earthquake (November 1974) Towering Inferno (December 1974) Jaws (May, 1975) I’m like a disaster herald. There was also a 1975 Japanese Bullet Train disaster movie, and a 1980 Burnimg Trsin Hindi movie inspired by it. I think I watched all these in the early 80s when I was like 8-10. Might do a rewatch. Did a 2000s disaster movie rewatch a few years ago. Peak of the Renaissance were definitely The Day After Tomorrow (2004) and 2012 (2009). The asteroid/comet ones (Armageddon, Deep Impact) were also ok.
