I saw a page that posted about how Buhari was allowed to pray inside the Kabba, a privilege reserved for only very important people in the Muslim world. And for this reason he was a great man. And hundreds of people poured into the comments to celebrate this milestone and pray for his soul.

Became clear to me over the past couple of days that my Muslim brothers saw Buhari as more of an important Islamic figure rather than a president of a secular nation.

Many tributes I’ve seen from those that adore him were crafted in such a way that revered his standing as a Muslim, and this is considered more important than his disastrous administration as president.

Many prominent figures who were muslims have died. And even though they were Muslims, their religions were not the focal point of their legacies.

You may wonder why Buhari’s own was different. Maybe it has something to do with his fundamentalist ideals. After all, he was most popular in states with the most extremist reputations.

Liberal muslim figures will not enjoy such reverence. Tinubu is also a muslim but Nigerian muslims will never revere him as an important islamic figure. Atiku is not exactly very popular amongst Muslims too.
