my high school bff hasn’t been on social media for idek how long, at least 7-8 years. so we mostly texted and called each other to stay in touch but it wasn’t super often. every couple months we’d just info dump all the recent events that happened in our lives over a long phone call. we’d catch each other randomly while driving or on a walk to somewhere far but now she’s been on farcaster for a couple of months and it has been so wonderful and lovely and awesome to see her account EVERY DAY and have all these little micro interactions with someone i love dearly that I wasn’t able to have before like my heart is just so full of love and joy!! idk what this is about. appreciation for being closer to your besties. a little pondering on how even though there are icky parts of social media, there are also really wonderful parts about it that can keep you connected in a way you didn’t even realize you weren’t with someone you consider a best friend (when they’re 5,000km away!!) it’s just such an honour and privilege to see the daily parts of peoples’ lives who choose to be authentic and vulnerable on social media, even if they do remain anonymous or pseudonymous. putting yourself out there and trying to find and maintain real connection in this wild world is an admirable feat. experiencing that lack of daily closeness with her for so long and then having it so consistently recently has really made me realize even further how much much potential there really is in social networks for connection, not just performance or virality thanks for reading my brain dump
