Targeted marketing campaigns via tokens are a better deal for users than traditional ads and potentially a great revenue source for farcaster (the app) But it feels misleading to call this marketing product the same thing as a TGE distribution that aims to decentralize ownership of a protocol

I strongly agree here. Marketing airdrops are a great pre-tge distribution. An early step towards leading to you your actual community seed distribution.
