It’s pretty wild to me that people won’t join Farcaster because of its relationship with Coinbase. fwiw they clearly see (or assume) a tighter relationship than I do. This level of philosophical commitment — which happens all over the political grid — is always impressive & interesting to me. It’s hard to be consistent for so ling because of the various inconveniences it requires and the isolation it fosters. Beyond that, the arbitrary (from the outside; subjective might be more fair) boundaries are often drawn from hyper-personal experiences that make for good conversation. Eugene is *filled* with this type of person; that’s part of the city’s charm. They are content with the tradeoffs and make their own sacrifices to live somewhat consistent to their own principles. There’s just not a whole lot that I feel that stongly about, so maybe the issue is my natural amibvalence. I also thrive in ambiguity, wheras those who boycott services often see more black & white (even when it’s not there). I’m also a pretty strong pluralist, so it’s part of the package deal. So I’m curious: how do these people do it?
