It's hard to overstate the value of a high-quality, long-term healthcare provider. 

We've been going to the same dentist for several years. He's a bit more holistic than others and this week it paid off. After we received a frustrating recommendation from another mouth doc ("your 15 yo needs a root canal asap"), he provided counsel with the kid's long-term total health in mind. 

He saw the whole problem, had the experience to know what the tradeoffs were, and had the integrity to plainly discuss them with us.

This is how it should be.
