Channels didn’t grow the user base.

If we change how channels work, we will most likely decentralize them in a way other apps can better support channel owners / communities.

time and time again we are seeing that the sweet spot of what makes money and what is fun for users simply does not exist

i’m not criticizing the fc team for this btw - i, too, have been actively trying to find a way to create fun experiences on the internet that help create real community and relationships in a financially sustainable manner for the last 4-5 years and haven’t come up with anything that works long term yet so i’m definitely not blaming anyone else

i just think there are maybe too many outside forces at play here that technology can’t solve

if the protocol works and sustains, then anyone can build something just for fun and permissionlessly integate with the social graph
