Goood Morning all. Today's poem is called Gammy, inspired by something I saw the other day. Hope you like it! Full text below. https://zora.co/coin/base:0xbc87a60ae904fa5be2b5394fee9c2a30eef72dac

Her right leg swung outwards Not hinged like her left The bone held straight In metal supports Her heel a wedge of iron Scrapping an arc in the cement As she walked Her shopping cart loaded With meat Warming in the mid-day sun Flies feasting On the salty sweat Collecting on her brow I could see she was tired So fucking tired I could see him step out Shirt buttoned up To a flab of skin Hanging From old jaws A wrinkled neck Not looking where he was going And it all happened so slowly Like an old tree falling into another The shopping cart Wedged between them Sausages spilled across the pavement A pork chop sliding into the road For a moment they danced Arms linked Tumbling together, And then she fell Her gammy leg Not enough to support her His full weight on top An oak tree bowing down Under the sweltering hot sun Her head a muffled thump Like a metal mallet on a side of beef As she hit the step And I watched for a moment Amazed She'd managed to stay straight for so long.
