Today's poem is called Notes. Not much to say about this one apart from the fact that it's hard being a dad. Perhaps the hardest job in the world.

There is nothing more powerful in this world than words.

She dropped the hand written note
Red ink on torn napkin
Double pleated
On the corner of her soup bowl
I don't like it
Hardly touched
Sodden through 
When I cleared it away
A sad mess of pooled puree
And dry chicken 
And smeared disappointment.

The next day
Instead of a peanut butter sandwich
I'd promised
I put two slices of sponge cake
Shop bought
In her backpack 
For breakfast
For school
Convinced she'd love it
And found another note
When she came home.

tired children. Wrong breakfast. Little one not wanting to brush his hair, or clean his teeth, or wash his hands and face. The two of them fighting. To be fair, he didn't stab his sister in the back with a pencil today like he did yesterday, so I guess that's a win.
