His shirt was torn open a little at the top And a button had popped And spittle had collected and hardened in white patches in the corner of his lips Salt on cracked rocks Fuck you. He collected his glasses from the pavement One of the arms had bent slightly and when he put them on they didn't sit straight. He wrung a fist. Fuck you he said again. You're blocked. All of this, gone. Shaky hands swung in circles to illustrate it. A step back. You see. You see. Can't you fucking see? A tentative stop forward. Regret. I'm gone, he says, and steps away. I watch him swing a fist at the air and make that deep guttural growling sound and never look back in my direction again.
