I’ve noticed something about myself & I’m wondering if it’s a personal quirk or a more universal experience. If I leave a negative first impression on someone, bc of bad luck or a small mistake or something, I tend to notice that I am often a worse version of myself in future interactions with them. Anyone else?

i feel the same i guess, in trying to avoid a similar situation in the next encounter, we somehow end up acting strangely or unintentionally repeating the same patterns 76 $degen

Okay let me ask, when someone leaves a negative impression on you, do you think your future interactions build upon that interaction? Because it maybe possible that you are projecting and adding thag interpretation while the other person may not notice the same.

my wife and i talk about this regularly after meeting new people, and usually come to realize that the perceived negative first impression is all in our heads. so unless it was objectively negative hopefully you can put it aside in future interactions and consider them fresh and neutral.

It could be the same factors at work the whole time. A personality disconnect, etc., could make it feel like you gave a bad first impression and also make later interactions feel bad/worse. Some people just don't "click" no matter what, even if you think they're a good person or your friends like them or whatever.

Sometimes I have noticed others interacting strangely with me only to have them later talk to me about something they felt embarrassed about in our first interactions, so I am fairly certain that it’s more of a wider experience

I notice that sometimes, but just separating yourself from past mistakes helps you overcome these "awkward" interactions
