I get what they're talking about. I felt it then and on the rare occasion when I boot up Mario 64 I feel it again since the moment that big head of his appears.

No other Mario game since has invoked that otherworldly feeling.

i don't know how to describe it, but something about super mario 64 feels like... ethereal. otherworldly. it's got a very odd feeling to it compared to other 3D mario games, like you're stepping into another dimension when you play it
