We’re planning to launch a new, optional “Pro” protocol subscription

1. At launch, subscribers will have a Pro badge on their profile

2. Subscription will be onchain and part of the protocol. 100% of the proceeds go to casters / developers in weekly rewards. This in addition to the existing $25K+ a week in rewards. 

3. Planning to add longer casts (10K characters) and up to 4 images per cast for pro subscribers (needs a protocol change). Additional features over time.

4. $120 a year / $10 a month 
Why are we doing this?

- The protocol needs to find long-term revenue source that can continue fund caster and developer rewards beyond any one company.  
- We originally thought storage fees could be that, but we’ve realized that storage fees should be essentialy free to help growth. 
- So we’re trying an opt-in pro subscription as another model

Why now?

- Figuring out a long-term revenue model that works will allow us to double down on investing in growth

It's a little steep but I'll sub. I like that it goes to the rewards pool. I can just save USDC rewards for it. I'd never pay for twitter pro, that just feels like extortion. This feels more like just a new mechanism for those of us who want to help boost the Farcaster community to get some benefit from that. The bigger those top caster rewards get, the more it will get attention from potential new users.

That’s what twitter said about their “creator rewards”

It can and will be gamed, either manually through backroom deals or through careful botting. 

And, since this is run by a capitalist business and not user owned in any sense of the word, eventually the rewards will dry up and adds will be everywhere as profit maximization is demanded by the investors. 

Still, if it includes features, and covers the yearly storage fees, whatever. It’s not a crazy amount compared to many other services.

I guess but it hasn't really been bad so far. I'd feel fine splitting some rewards with any of the people who often get top spots, maybe one or two exceptions but nothing like twitter.
Yeah I definitely wonder how things will go at the end of the "plenty of runway" phase though.
