We started by determining what an equal share of the wealth in the world, divided amongst all adults 16-60 would count mean in terms of annual salary. Then we calculated what all basic needs from education (including lifelong post secondary), to child care, to retirement care would cost annually. We split that cost amongst all income earners equally and then questioned if, assuming a closed loop system where most of people’s money goes not to their needs but to their wants and to patronage, could remain sustainable long term; it could. Now we’re moving on to the ideal salary variance to account for motivating high demand jobs like doctor and sanitation worker via (slightly) increased compensation.

Of course we assumed highly efficient systems like cost single payer healthcare and we added in realistic cost reductions from AI improvements in education, healthcare, and administration.

My favourite part, the standard salary, equivalent to 70k USD after tax, comes at the expense of only 10-15h work per week.

And I didn’t ask this thing to spit out utopian nonsense. This is all based on the wealth that exists in the world today.

Oh and a few more things. I instructed the LLM to assume there is no stock market such that the returns that pay for retirement and other social goods can not be paid for through annual returns on private goods. 

These assumptions are based on worker/civilian ownership of the means, yet allows for free markets for non-essential goods and encouraged a gift economy to support the arts. 

I’m rather happy with the results. Might continue the conversation a bit longer and share some of the prompts and results in an article.
