I think, given the state of the world, we should all be moving more towards private crypto. Surveillance and abuse of power are increasing exponentially and we should go towards, not away from, cypherpunk values.

With this in mind, I added Monero as a tipping option on my blog. I’ve always put a Zcash address there (once got a big tip, likely from Zooko), but I was misguided into believing XMR was insecure. It’s also not available on most cexs, so I wasn’t sure where to start, but it turns out there are some good workarounds to this. I’ve also noticed several sites allowing for payment in XMR. Usually sites that support payment in BTC or LTC. I mostly just use my private crypto to support charities, but I’d like to build up a sort of “cash under the mattress” of private crypto in case things get worse quickly.

I’m hopeful that Ethereum will add privacy at the protocol level. Shielding transactions by default would be a good start. But I don’t know if it will happen or if it even makes sense with the direction onchain activity has taken.
