Random question: what do you think is the intersection of users on both Farcaster *and* Mastodon? Or maybe slightly close to the intersection like myself and netop:// (who converge on discord of all places) Yet another thing I dream of making is a focused cross posting tool that is less focused on broadcast and discovery, but more on replying and engaging in an aggregated view. Farcaster + Mastodon + ActivityHub seem like natural candidates, just wonder if this is something that only 5 people would find useful today (╭ರ_•́)

i don't really know many people who are on both. i think i only know 1 – @thumbsup.eth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ like me, wibby and brad both kind of left farcaster for mastodon after the election and when all the coin stuff started. i think it's difficult to mix farcaster with mastodon or bsky bc the farcaster culture is so different from the latter 2, it's closer to x, and mastodon and bsky reject a lot of the culture/convos happening here and on x i don't think i would want to mix my feed here with my mastodon feed (⌒_⌒;) over there, i get more open web, foss, etc stuff. here i see more coin, tech bro and consumer product stuff and i'm fine leaving that as segregated content that i don't have to see all the time

Yeah Mastodon to me is very cozy web. No one there cares about being big or having influence. It’s all about hobbies and discussions. Counter to Elle’s opinion, I see Bluesky (the app, not the protocol) as a 1:1 sub for pre-Elon twitter. Politics but also general interest. Still probably a net bad for the world. And Farcaster as a 1:1 sub for crypto twitter with a bit of Reddit mixed in. None of these are critiques. Just my perspective on the subject.

yeah i agree that bsky is twitter (not x) and it is also kind of in a symbiotic relationship with x, unfortunately. that and the way u described mastodon is why i prefer mastodon. the cozy focused nature is kind of what i hoped channels here would be like. but in the end, i think channels were just trying to force a fit that didn't fit and required too much futile effort when i can just get the same content easier on mastodon (⌒_⌒;)

I'm salty about losing my 2018 Mastodon account and losing my hipster street cred, but alas I know it's everything I'm looking for in social (small, interest focused, real people) I'm Bluesky curious but feel I should approach it as another Mastodon, vibe wise, to maybe get the most of the network over there.

Yeah that’s the best strategy. Re: losing your mastodon account, that sucks. I use Mastodon.online because they don’t police crypto stuff really so I’m less worried about getting arbitrarily kicked off a server. Did you see that Mastodon wants to make it easy to have a sort of instance-as-a-service. That could be a good option, so long as they make federation/bridging a lot smoother.

I'm strongly looking at gotosocial.org! Very lightweight way of hosting your own ActivityPub server. I've seen a handful in the wild. Very /homelabs aligned!
