Why, what's worse in web3 with regards to creator monetization than in web2?

For one, creators lack a web3-native way to sell premium content. Authors, filmmakers, course creators, …even if web3 empowers them to control their content & own their fans, they don’t want their IP to be right-click-savable or token gated (mimics web2’s platform-centric model). That’s why we built Darkblock

Okay I’ll bite - I don’t see this as a problem. If you’re a filmmaker or author just because someone can right click doesn’t mean ip ownership. Unless you’re a Chris Nolan or Dr Seuss your biggest issue is distribution and attention.

I’m not talking about IP ownership. I’m talking about a creator’s ability to make a living from their work. An artist selling 1/1s is one thing. But we shouldn’t expect an indie author to enter web3 if their only option is to let people freely download their 300-page novel & just hope fans will also mint some.

In agreement, I’m for culture building and getting more people paid to create culture. We just have different approaches: sounds like you are on the protection side and I’m on the attention side. I still want that indie author to sell that novel but think they need to attract a wide audience first for true fans

I just don’t see why people suddenly believe all creators should be okay with their content being free to consume in exchange for “exposure.” I subscribe to KK’s 1k true fans idea, but don’t think it’s mutually exclusive w/ a creator’s ability to sell premium content to fans willing to pay.

I’m not talking about giving a novel away for free. I’m taking about doing what your talented at in smart & smaller way to attract attention and still get paid You don’t open a Michelin Starred restaurant from the jump… you work in a kitchen and get paid to be there or do an in-apt supperclub

Ok, we're talking about different things. You're saying creators need to promote their work—offer free content, lead magnets, etc—to grow an audience they can eventually monetize 👍 I'm talking about adding a tool to their web3 toolbox for when they're ready to monetize. Don't see a disagreement. You?

Yea, but im also taking about monetization at the promotion stage too since you can now do that with crypto. Our solution is more focused on kid lit so perhaps that’s more where we differ a bit in vision
