I have to resist the urge to dump this type of content in /dev for the network effects when it’s really /math and /computerscience. It’s just a shame those other channels weren’t seeded with more followers from the start.

hmm can you talk me through how youre thinking about this? have you experimented with posting in those channels? what’s the delta with yours engagement? this happens with subreddits too btw and the Reddit playbook to growing a subreddit isn’t by posting in another popular one, but by leaning into the subreddit you wish would grow happy to chat more about this on a call!

Meant to reply to this earlier! I’ve posted in /math several times before and didn’t get much of a reaction, but maybe I’m biased because I normally post in /dev or /frontend which IIRC were both part of the legacy channel auto-follow list. I’m guess I’m just surprised broad topics like /math and /computerscience don’t have more activity given overlapping interests with the dev community. Either they’re really more niche than I think, or (more likely) people tend to use more established but tangentially-related channels as Schelling points instead. Maybe Warpcast needs a new channel onboarding wizard to help seed these gaps (similar to Twitter topics or Pinterest categories)?
