Step 1: Think first principles and identify the key assumptions that are made.

Tinfoil hat, this was his plan the whole time to build public trust in his security company

TBH this does not make sense. VCs know 9.5/10 portfolio companies will go to zero.  But a VC only needs 1 company to 100x to make the fund. In "fund math" a 0.5x (or even 2x) company is the same one that goes to zero.  Most VCs would prefer the company to use that $3M to pursue a 100x.
