for anyone else who wants to read this: https://archive.is/rSxSB TLDR there isn't a single reason: could be internal cartel conflict / cartel disruption, chemical shortages, shift in trafficking methods to be less detectable, now people cutting fentanyl with heroin, reduced demand so reduced supply, etc. good news is that overdose deaths are down (~27% from 2023 to 2024), likely due to expanded naloxone access.

or maybe its because of this? dunno just throwing it out there. less illegal crossings = less illegal fentanyl sounds like a reasonable take as opposed to omg it could be all these other 20 hypothetical things we see in movies. or maybe people are just scared to spend the rest of their lives in an El Salvador prison.
