for anyone else who wants to read this: https://archive.is/rSxSB TLDR there isn't a single reason: could be internal cartel conflict / cartel disruption, chemical shortages, shift in trafficking methods to be less detectable, now people cutting fentanyl with heroin, reduced demand so reduced supply, etc. good news is that overdose deaths are down (~27% from 2023 to 2024), likely due to expanded naloxone access.
